Frequently asked questions.....
Q. What happens at a saddle fit?
A. First, I have a look at your saddle, asses the condition and safety of it, the quality of the flocking etc., and have a look at your horse and take a history. Then I'll need you to have a ride in your saddle, so I can see how it's sitting and where it 'wears' into. Then we can make a plan for any adjustments that need to be made. If needsbe, I will then reflock/repack your saddle and have you ride in it again, to check the final job and gain rider feedback. At this point, horse and rider usually 'feel' the difference of changes made. A fitting can take from 1 to 2hrs depending on the complexity.
Q. My saddle is old. Is it worth re-fitting?
A. Yes, the saddle that is right for you and your horse - is the one that fits! Be it brand new, or old and bit tatty! As long as the structure is sound and it suits you both. Often, saddles are a bit like a new pair of shoes – always more comfortable with a bit of mileage under them.
Q. What happens if my saddle doesn't fit my horse and it can't be repacked to fit.
A. I will work with you to get the best out of your saddle. If the structure/design cannot be improved to an acceptable outcome, I can give you a 'shopping list' of brands and sizes to go on the hunt for. Making sure you're not wasting your time and money on courier fees, getting the wrong saddles for test rides.
Q. How often should a saddle be fitted?
A. Its recommended that saddles are checked every 6 to 12mths depending on wear, seasonal changes, work load etc. This could be more often if it is a young horse going through a growth spurt, or a horse with an extravagant movement.
Q. I live outside of Canterbury. Can you still fit my saddle?
A. Clinics outside Canterbury are possible and will be assessed upon demand. Contact me if you have a group interested.
Q. How should I pay?
A. Cash, or bank transfer (payable within 7 days from date of invoice).
